Marie graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Medical Science) from the University of Sydney in 2020 and then went on to graduate with First Class Honours from the Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Honours) in 2021. Her honours research, conducted under the supervision of Professor Shaun Jackson and Dr Yuping Yuan from the Heart Research Institute (HRI) Thrombosis Research Group, focused on ischemia-reperfusion injury and investigated a novel mechanism of red blood cell–mediated microvascular obstruction — findings that were later published in Nature (2025).
Fascinated by the complexity of vascular biology and the broader world of biomedical research, Marie continued at HRI as a Research Assistant to further explore these mechanisms. In this role, she expanded her work to include platelet biology, investigating platelet thrombotic mechanisms under ischemic conditions. This experience deepened her passion for medical research and strengthened her interest in the intersection between cellular mechanisms and human disease.
In 2025, Marie joined the Stem Cell Medicine Unit at Children's Medical Research Institute as a Research Assistant, contributing to projects exploring the use of stem cells for cell replacement therapies. She is particularly interested in how these advanced models can be applied to treat degenerative retinal diseases and restore vision.
Outside the lab, Marie enjoys creative spaces like art galleries, quiet moments amongst nature, and discovering new cafes. She’s a self-declared coffee enthusiast with a love of learning and a curiosity that extends well beyond the lab.
