What is Workplace Giving and how does it work?

Workplace giving is an easy way for you to make regular donations to Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) through payroll deductions.

Donations are made automatically from your pre-tax pay, which means you instantly receive a tax deduction each pay cycle (no need to save tax receipts, it’s all done for you!)

You can start or change your donation at any time.

About Children’s Medical Research Institute

CMRI is an in independent organisation committed to finding treatments and cures for children’s genetic diseases.

1 in 20 children is born with a birth defect or genetic disease, and world-wide, a child is diagnosed with cancer every 2 minutes.

There are over 180 researchers and scientists asking the difficult questions around cancer, embryology, neurobiology, genomics and gene therapy. They are working hard to find real answers so we can give these kids a healthier future.

What are the benefits?

For employees:

By choosing to donate through your pre-tax pay, you will receive an immediate tax benefit! For example:

If you choose to donate $40 per month to Children’s Medical Research Institute:

  • You receive an immediate tax saving of $13*, so even though you’re donating $40, the net cost to you is only $27;
  • You will also receive updates on the impact your donation is making and how you are helping to save lives!
  • Here’s the really great part – if your employer matches your donation, $80 will go toward finding cures and treatments for children’s genetic diseases.

*Based on 2018-2019 Australian marginal tax rate of 32.5% for taxable incomes of $37,001-$90,000.

  • Research grants are very competitive and CMRI does not receive any guaranteed government funding, so every year, our researchers must apply for grants to ensure they are able to continue their work to find treatments and cures for children’s genetic diseases. If the funding stops, so does the research. Your regular donation ensures the research continues.
  • 1 in 20 children face a birth defect or genetic disease – what we don’t always see is that it affects their family and friends also. Your support gives them hope for a healthier future.
