Roger Riding to Speed up Research

CMRI’s Director, Professor Roger Reddel AO, is riding in his first Great Cycle Challenge as part of Team CMRI

"I'm not usually a bike rider, but the Great Cycle Challenge is such an important event that I decided this year to find a way to join the action by riding a stationary bike,” explains Roger.

Professor Reddel is, among many other titles, the Head of CMRI's Cancer Research Unit.

“GCC is an incredibly important boost to the cancer research being done at CMRI. The opportunities to make big advances have never been greater. The greater the funding, the faster we will make significant progress against this disease,” he says.

Roger’s biggest hurdle to participation is finding the time. In addition to being the Head of the Cancer Research Unit and Director of CMRI, he is Director of CellBank Australia and Co-Director of ProCan®.

So, how’s he fitting in some pedal power?

“I've been using a stationary bike at home and mostly been cycling in the morning before work, and I spend the time either thinking about the day ahead or listening to podcasts - which would be dangerous if I were cycling on city streets!” he says.

He also extends a huge thank you to all riders and the wonderful people who donate to support the riders and our cancer research for children with cancer. “Enjoy the great feeling of being part of a big team effort to give kids with cancer the opportunity to live a healthy life.”
