There is nothing like the feeling of Aussie streets washed in denim, so it was extremely exciting to have Jeans for Genes Day celebrated back out in the public after two years of lockdown and to have now reached more than $2 million!
Events were back on again, from formal balls to kids’ denim discos, cake stalls, a travelling burpee competition, skipping challenge and of course the traditional school playgrounds full of jeans!
Volunteers also took to the streets once again to collect coins, sell merchandise, and spread the word about the importance of investment in research. Many of those volunteers included Children’s Medical Research Institute scientists who proudly spoke about their vital work to the public.
Jeans for Genes Campaign Manager Greg Noel-Butterworth thanked the Australian community for rallying behind the CMRI researchers.
“We had a record number of our scientists who volunteered to be out on the streets this Jeans for Genes Day and that just shows how grateful they are to the everyday Australians who donate to keep their labs open and their incredible work continuing to help future generations.
