Whether it was dancing, baking, or organising hundreds of school children to don their denim, our loyal CMRI Committees pulled out all the stops for Jeans for Genes Day this year.
The Mudgee Committee is always incredibly gifted at rallying their regional community together, wearing Jeans for Genes merchandise from head to toe and selling cakes out on the streets to support our cause.
Another group that is known for bringing their town together is the Gerringong Committee who, in addition to selling merchandise at the local shops, held its annual Trivia Night complete with a denim quilt raffle.
Gerringong Committee member Lorraine Peade said they had more than 170 people attend.
“It was a great night, so much fun and everyone is happy to support us because they see it as a great cause,” Lorraine said.
“Our community is very generous and supportive—lots of businesses donate to the multi draw raffle and Kiama Quilters Guild has been creating and donating a denim look quilt every year for the raffle. It’s always stunning!”

Mudgee Committee member Myff Clarke their Bake it Blue street cake stall started small and ended up "nothing short of extraordinary''.
"What started as trays of homemade cakes, slices, and treats quickly became something so much bigger — a community coming together for children’s medical research. With the generosity of everyone who baked, bought, and supported us, we proudly raised nearly $23,000 to help change the future for kids living with genetic conditions.''
Our Goulburn and Surrounds Committee was involved in a Dance 4 Denim line dancing evening, but their biggest project was organising 22 local schools to take part in Jeans for Genes Day.
Goulburn and Surrounds Committee member Simon Greig said it’s no mean feat and requires a lot of travel with his wife Caroline.
“The schools are now getting used to the drill of the little blue cardboard donation boxes appearing at the school office,” he said. “The feedback from the school admin teams has been highly positive and we hope the education about Jeans for Genes Day is broadening in the community.
“Overall, we travel about 1400kms for the delivery and collection of the donation boxes. This is out eighth year—in our first year, four schools engaged—and we hope to capture more in years to come.”
