Business that is passionate about community

Jeans for Genes

When friends Dominique and Helene started their own business just three years ago – they saw a need to help those living with chronic illness and now they want to give back by working closely with Jeans for Genes.

The young women started The Spoonie Society because they live with Endometriosis, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Adenomyosis and have undergone several surgeries. They created a wearable heat pack to help others who live with chronic pain but also to advocate for these conditions which are often not talked about.

“We are both chronically ill ourselves, so we understand what it’s like to constantly be sick, going to hospital, dealing with surgeries, running around to doctors’ appointments and everything else being unwell entails,’’ Helene said.

It is particularly impressive that the girls, only three years into business, have already started fundraising for charity but Dominique said that was an important part of their plans.

“We’re also very passionate about community so being a part of such an amazing campaign to help kids has been super rewarding,’’ Dominique said. “We started The Spoonie Society to help other chronically ill people which ties in very well with why Jeans for Genes do what they do. Being unwell or sick is never a choice and raising not only awareness but funds to help change that is what The Spoonie Society is all about.’’

This year as part of Jeans for Genes they have raised $5000 and CMRI’s Corporate Partnerships Manager Penny Horsfield thanked them for their efforts.

“Thank you to The Spoonie Society, Dominique and Helene for all of your support. We couldn’t do what we do without companies like The Spoonie Society”.

The Spoonie Society are continuing to fundraise for CMRI by selling a Jeans for Genes heat pack with all profits going to our labs. Make your purchase here: https://www.thespooniesociety....
