Ain't no mountain high enough for our supporters

When a dedicated bunch of Children's Medical Research Institute scientists and supporters decided to hike three mountains in Kosciuszko National Park in November, they certainly didn't expect to be trekking through snow - but it was all part of their incredible commitment to research.

3 Peaks mountains

The 3 Peaks Challenge was a new concept which allowed supporters to get outdoors, take on a unique experience, and fundraise for CMRI.

In November, the group of 14, including a handful of CMRI scientists and staff, climbed three of Australia’s highest peaks – Mt Kosciuszko, Etheridge Ridge, and Rams Head North. It was an 18km steep hike that took eight hours, and snow covered 50 per cent of the track!

One of the hikers was CMRI’s Community Fundraising Coordinator, Julia Weir, who described it as an incredible experience which has raised more than $38,000.

“It was extremely challenging hiking through the snow, and the peaks were quite steep, but it felt so great to say we had trekked for medical research, and it was such a great group of people who had many friends, family, and colleagues rallying behind them to donate to the cause,’’ she said. “They were all very overwhelmed, and all our scientists really appreciate the work they put into it.’’
