David Van Ly graduated with a BMedSci (Hons 1) from the University of Sydney before completing a Ph.D. on the role of respiratory viral infections in airway disease exacerbations with Prof. Judith Black and Dr Brian Oliver at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research Glebe. In 2012, David transitioned into the scientific industry working at AMS Laboratories Sydney, as a Senior Virologist. In 2013, he was the first scientist to join the Genome Integrity Group. David established super-resolution imaging in the lab and his research focuses on telomere-loops and chromosome end protection. While continuing to work in the lab, David completed his medical training (M.D.) from the University of Notre Dame Sydney in 2019. David currently works as a medical officer at SWSLHD Liverpool Hospital whilst continuing his ongoing research in telomere structural biology.
