Associate Professor Samantha Ginn BSc (Hons), PhD, Gene Therapy Research Unit, Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI) and Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney.
Samantha obtained her Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology) degree from University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) before undertaking her PhD in bacterial genetics and molecular biology at The University of Sydney in the laboratory of Emeritus Professor Ron Skurray.
Since completing her PhD, she has dedicated her career to the field of gene therapy where her research focuses on using both viral and non-viral gene transfer systems to develop therapies for monogenic diseases affecting children. Her current research uses recombinant AAV vectors and lipid nanoparticles to deliver genome editing technology to high-value targets including the liver and nervous system with a particular focus on the use of predictive preclinical human models. She is the current President of the Australasian Gene and Cell Therapy Society, Associate Editor for the journal Gene Therapy, Editorial Board member for The Journal of Gene Medicine and holds a conjoint appointment as Associate Professor with The University of Sydney.
