Glena is a creative and curious biomedical scientist with expertise in cancer biology.

She was awarded her PhD degree in 2023 from the University of Technology Sydney. Her PhD titled ‘Regulation of the PTEN Tumour Suppressor by its Pseudogene (PTENp1) and the MicroRNA Landscape: Potential for Future Cancer Therapy’ quantitated the genes in various cancers versus non-cancer cells, for the use as potential future gene therapy. Additionally, cancer causing microRNAs were also identified via in silico and miRNA-Sequencing.

She started her postdoc in 2023 with the University of Sydney and Children’s Medical Research Institute under the supervision of Dr Anai Gonzalez Cordero and Associate Professor Stefano Palomba. The exciting project involves the creation of a universal neurophotonic interference, i.e. Bionics with feeling utilising cutting-edge fields of Optogenetics, Photonic, Neurobiology, Molecular Biology and Biomedical Engineering.

In her spare time, Glena is always doing something creative, creating art, photographing or vlogging. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family enjoying various cuisines or being in the great outdoor going on road trips or on hikes.
